Keeping KVT in an external wallet

  • Updated

A standalone wallet offers enhanced privacy, as it allows you to manage your assets without sharing personal information with third parties. By keeping your private keys secure, you maintain full control over your funds. On the Kinesis platform, it also means you can store your KVTs without verifying your identity.

The Kinesis Velocity Token (KVT) is a Stellar token, built on the Stellar blockchain. If you wish to move your KVT to an external wallet, you will need to download an external Stellar-based wallet and establish a Trustline with the wallet to earn the KVT Yield.

A trustline enables an external wallet to hold and trade assets other than Stellar (XLM), such as KVTs. By connecting your external wallet to your Kinesis account, you will be able to hold and transfer your KVTs on the wallet and earn the KVT Yield.

What if I hold my KVTs on an unlinked external wallet

Any users who are holding their KVTs in an external wallet that is not linked to their Kinesis account will need to link their wallet, to receive KVT Yields. Otherwise, Kinesis won't be able to track your KVTs in order to calculate your yields on these addresses.

The KVT wallet linking can be completed at any time and you will never lose your KVTs if this process isn’t completed. However, you will not be able to receive your KVT Yields until your wallet is linked.

You can link your wallet address as described in our Wallet guides.

Can I link my external ERC-20 KVT addresses following the KVT migration to Stellar?

Yes. You can link your external ERC-20 wallet to your Kinesis account at any time, however, you will only begin receiving your yields once your KVT wallet addresses are linked. While almost all KVT owners are not required to take any action, a very small number of users who still hold their KVTs on external unlinked ERC-20 addresses should link external KVT addresses to your Kinesis account.

Once your ERC-20-based KVT wallets are linked to your Kinesis account, Kinesis will be able to credit your account with the upgraded, Stellar-based KVTs to complete the migration.

Go here to see our guides for linking ERC-20 wallets such as Metamask, CoolWallet, Trezor and Ledger.

Note: KVT underwent an upgrade to the Stellar network on the 17th of February 2025 and all KVTs held in users’ Kinesis accounts have been automatically upgraded to Stellar and users do not need to take any action. For all ERC-20-based KVTs held in users’ linked external ERC-20 wallets, the equivalent Stellar-based KVTs have been automatically credited to their Kinesis account.

The ERC-20-based KVTs held in externally linked addresses will remain visible in users' wallets, but they will hold no value and be non-transferable.
