Depositing crypto and fiat on the Kinesis platform

  • Updated

In this video, you can find out how to make your first deposit onto the platform and load your Kinesis account with GBP, USD, EUR, your local fiat or cryptocurrencies. You will also be shown how to send funds using your email address.

Note that the video below shows an earlier version of the Kinesis platform, and our team is working on updating it soon. The process, however, remains the same.

How to deposit fiat

Kinesis offers a variety of available options for users wishing to deposit funds into the Kinesis platform, depending on their location.

In most instances users can deposit their funds without the need for currency conversion, however, in some cases, their funds will be converted into the US Dollar ($).

Fiat currencies that do not require conversion: US Dollar ($), British Pound (£), Euro (€), Australian Dollar (A$), Canadian Dollar (C$), Swiss Franc (CHF), Singaporean Dollar (S$) and United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED).

Fiat currencies that will be automatically converted to the US Dollar at the current prevailing interbank rate: Chinese Yuan Renminbi (¥), Hong Kong Dollar (HK$), Indonesian Rupiah (Rp), Japanese Yen(JP¥) and New Zealand Dollar (NZ$).

To deposit Euro (EUR) from an EEA-based bank account, see our guide here.

To deposit British Pounds (GBP) from an EEA-based bank account, see our guide here.

Step 1: Click on the Assets tab from the left-hand navigation panel (you can also use the deposit function in the top panel).

Step 2: Click open against the fiat (cash) account you wish to deposit funds into (USD in this example).

After selecting your currency, you'll be given a few bank deposit options from different countries. It's up to you to choose the one that suits you best.

Step 3: The deposit screen will provide the Kinesis bank account details that you need to make a transfer to in order to deposit fiat funds.

Create a bank transfer from your bank account to the Kinesis bank account, including the payment reference contained in the description field on this screen.

Make sure you include the Payment Reference contained in the description field on this screen.

The Kinesis Payment Reference, (starting with KM followed by numbers, eg KM12345678) is a number the Kinesis team uses to identify the account to which the funds should be deposited. If you do not include your KM number as a payment reference, Kinesis will be unable to deposit your funds.

Please note: 3-5 working days for the funds to clear. Once the Kinesis operations team have confirmed receipt of funds in the Kinesis bank account, your Kinesis account will be credited with the deposited funds and you shall receive an email confirming this transaction.

How to deposit BTC and other crypto assets

Step 3: The deposit screen will provide your Kinesis Bitcoin wallet details that you can then deposit BTC to, from your own cryptocurrency wallet.

Once the transaction is complete, you will see your deposited BTC in your account along with an email notifying you about your deposit. You will also be able to view the transaction in your recent transactions.

Note: We do not recommend transferring BTC directly from an exchange. It is advised to send BTC directly from an e-wallet.

Note:* Kinesis only supports the Ethereum (ERC-20) network for USDT deposits, meaning only ERC-20 tokens held on the Ethereum blockchain can be deposited to the Kinesis platform.

For USDC deposits, however, both the ERC-20 and Stellar networks are supported.

Example:

Depositing ERC-20 tokens that are supported and stored on other blockchains, such as Polygon, Solana and Binance Chain, will result in the assets becoming unavailable to send or trade on the Kinesis platform. Additionally, the user will be liable to pay a fee (5 KAU) to retrieve the deposited cryptocurrency back. Please read our Asset Recovery Policy for further information.

How to move KVT to your Kinesis account

If you are moving KVT into your Kinesis account, ensure you have a sufficient amount of XLM in your Stellar-compatible wallet to cover the transaction fees. KVTs are Stellar tokens and thus require XLM for network transaction costs.

You can purchase XLM on the Kinesis Pro exchange or using the Buy/Sell widget on the Home dashboard, within the Kinesis platform.

Note for ERC-20 KVT holders: Following the KVT Migration to Stellar on 17th February 2025, ERC-20-based KVTs held in external addresses hold no value and are non-transferable. A very small number of users still hold ERC-20 KVTs in unlinked external wallets. If you fall into this category, you must link your external KVT addresses to your Kinesis account to complete the upgrade to Stellar.
